Across Rushcliffe PCN we are aiming for all our partners to become Dementia Friendly
As part of the Rushcliffe Dementia Project 2022-2024, all partners of the Rushcliffe Primary Care Network, agreed to work to become Dementia Friendly. To encourage this, we set up a list of actions:
· Taking part in Dementia Friends Information Session
· Undertake Carers Awareness Training
· If appropriate, consider an environmental walkthrough of any premises used/owned
· Become a member of RDAN
· Identify an Organisation link/Champion to move these actions forward

Rushcliffe Dementia Action Network (RDAN)
Across Rushcliffe there are many groups organisations and individuals with the shared aim to improve life for those affected by dementia, including carers.
A response to this has been to form a Network: Rushcliffe Dementia Action Network (RDAN). This recently became a charity (Registered Charity:1210657). This allows the work of the Network to be more sustainable, for example raising funds to put on events (Dementia and Carers Roadshow, Green Memory Café etc) and provide resources, ensuring the Dementia Directory stays as up to date as possible.
More information can be found on RDAN’s website: Rushcliffe Dementia Action Network |
Toolkit
“Working to become Dementia Friendly” Toolkit. This is a downloadable resource for any team, business, organisation etc to access, if wanting to ensure they are accessible and welcoming to anyone affected by dementia. It contains a series of simple actions that can really make a difference.
Hidden Disabilities

To maintain independence and get out and about in your community, perhaps consider wearing a Sunflower Lanyard to show you have a Hidden Disability, in this case, dementia.
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a hidden disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding or more time in shops, at work, on transport or in public spaces.
You can buy your Sunflower lanyard here : Hidden Disabilities Sunflower (hdsunflower.com) These may be available free of charge from certain major stores (eg Asda, Morrisons and Sainsburys - ask at Customer Service Desk).
You can then choose to add in more information eg a Medical Alert Badge/ carer contact details if you wish. These can be bought (approx. £8) at this website: Dementia I.C.E. Card - The Badge Centre ® At the checkout, also ask for a plastic holder to attach the card to the lanyard.
